Description
The Colt 1860 Army revolver was the primary sidearm of Union forces during the Civil War, widely praised for its balance, reliability, and stopping power. This U.S.-marked example, serial number 13042, is chambered in .44 caliber with an 8" round barrel topped with a German silver blade sight. It features a six-shot rebated cylinder with roll engraving, a brass trigger guard, and one-piece walnut grips.
Markings include an "H" inspector stamp on the barrel and a "T" inspector stamp on the trigger guard, with all major components matching by serial number except the wedge, which bears number 6989. The revolver is housed in a modern wooden presentation case lined in red velour, fitted with compartments for accessories including a reproduction powder flask, antique two-cavity Colt mold, modern capper, tin of percussion caps, and a selection of lead balls.
Condition shows cleaned gray metal with areas of pitting and surface dents. The grips display significant wear, with repairs to both panels. Mechanically, the cylinder does not advance correctly when cycled. Bore is dark with light pitting but retains sound rifling. Despite its wear, this revolver remains a historically significant U.S.-inspected Colt Army, making it a desirable addition for Civil War and early Colt collectors.
